As part of your training on the School Direct programme with St Gabriel’s, not only will you take part in university led academic theory sessions, you will also have the unique opportunity to access our ‘in-house’ continuing professional development and formation training, that of the St Monica’s Teaching School Alliance and that of the Salford Diocese. Furthermore, our membership of the Bury Secondary Learning Collaborative provides a diverse range of training that is unsurpassed in most other local authorities in the country.
On-site at St Gabriel’s RC High School we offer a rich and varied programme of professional development that will enrich your knowledge, support your PGCE qualification and enhance your CV and job applications.
Over the last year, our ‘in-house’ training sessions have included:
- Planning effectively for learning
- Engaging all learners
- Active learning in the classroom
- Differentiation for learners at all levels
- Developing independent learners
- Using new technologies to enhance teaching and learning
- Coaching to enhance teaching
You will also have the chance to take part in many of our focus group activities that will enhance your pedagogical knowledge. Some of our focus groups this year have shared and developed effective practice in:
- Assessment and feedback
- Assessment without levels
- Behaviours for learning
Training through School Direct creates an opportunity that traditional PGCE courses have been unable to provide. Your training at St Gabriel’s will be personalised to suit your emerging development needs to support your progression into a career in teaching.
